Plein Air– Coney Island

I spent two days plein air painting at the old Coney Island amusement park in the California neighborhood of Cincinnati. The Cincinnati Art Club sponsored the first day as part of the celebrations surrounding the opening of ViewPoint 45, the national open show that they sponsor.

The first day I painted the view from just above the Ohio River, looking toward the River Gate. This is the old drop off point for the Island Queen steamboat, that used to bring thousands of passengers to the park every summer. If you use the link above, you can see the River Gate in the bottom photo.

On the second day, with the SWOPA group, I painted in the old midway, looking toward Moonlight Gardens. An outdoor dance hall in use since 1925. Destination of a lot of those folks who came up on the Island Queen to see the top dance bands, especially in the 30's and 40's.
