Beckett Ponds 23

Like "Becket Ponds 21", this new 20" x 24" painting is dealing with the lily pads floating between the underwater colors and the sky's reflection. The reflections in this work are more intense and were painted with less dry brush technique. It's back to the photo collection to see what will be next in this series.

I'll paint at MAPs tomorrow and then pack things up for NmPC Fine Arts Fair, Feb. 5th. Hope to see many friends there!

MAP Monday

More in the spirit of the season, I finished this 8 x 10 yesterday. Just a few touch-ups after starting at MAP group Monday to let the white dried back somewhat. This painting was based upon some photos I was able to take last week. 10-12 degrees when I went out at 3:30P, by the time I got done the temp had dropped to almost half that. Brrrrrrr...

I'm hoping this will be dry enough to varnish and frame to take to the NmPC Art Show Feb. 5th. Post cards with info will be going out this week.

MAP Monday

I started "Beckett Ponds 22", 8" x 10", Oil on Canvas Panel, Monday at MAPs group. An image of warmth for this snowy day. I'll probably head out this afternoon, when it's really coming down, to see if I can get some photos for that summer scorcher. At least one more large BP painting on the easel to get done before the Northminster Presbyterian Art Show, Saturday, February 5th.

Beckett Ponds 21

Carried over from last year, here was one of those challenges that just need to be worked through. After starting this in December, I had to let it sit for a while.  I liked how the leaves were progressing, but the depth of the water just wasn't working for me. Then I started working the darks up under a more dry brushed surface for the reflections.

I think everything will really pop with the varnish on, but then photography would be impossible... painted sky reflections and glare off the gloss varnish. Looks flatter here than it really is, you'll have to see it in person.

MAP Monday (a week ago)

Last week at the Mason Area Painters meeting we set up still lives (lifes?) to paint. I brought these three things from home, but didn't like them against the large expanse of butcher block counter. So I threw down my jacket behind as a backdrop and this is what was produced. "MAP– Still Life 4", 8" x 10", Oil on Canvas Panel.

I'm still working on photos to catch-up last year and this... will be posted soon.

House Commission 4

Today I delivered the fourth house commission received from the Hyde Park Art Show. I started several paintings in December, but this wound up being only the second completed. The rest need more work or will wind up in the trash.

I was also getting ready to archive my photos of work from this last year and noticed some missing. I'll have to go back and take pix and post them here. Looks like I completed 75 paintings in 2010.

Happy New Year!
