Oil on Paper

Wild Turkeys
9" x 12", Oil on Paper
04/2015

Further exploration of the use of Arches Oil Paper has lead to this painting of two wild turkeys. A flock of these birds used to come down to feed in a field along West Chester Road, near Honorlaw's Farm. The photo that this work was done from was take the winter before this last. Turkey iridescence is a challenge to paint.

Plein Air– Clermont County

Stonelick Covered Bridge
12" x 16", Oil on Canvas
04/2015

The Stonelick Covered Bridge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonelick_Covered_Bridge) is newly rebuilt after suffering multiple injuries. Someone tried to burn it down, an overweight truck broke through the deck and the whole structure collapsed into the creek when it was under repair. It's been totally refurbished with new pieces where necessary.  Good for another 137 years?

Small Nocturne

Moonlit Cabin
6" x 8", Oil on Canvas Panel
04/2015

I drove by this abandoned cabin on the East side of Cincinnati last year, traveling from one our plein air outings. The photos appealed to me, but I thought the drama of a night scene would be more dramatic. Little 6x8 paintings are like jewels. They need to be studied close up, not being readily discerned from across a room.

Spring in Ault Park

Ault Park– Spring
9" x 12", Oil on Canvas Panel
04/2015

We missed the first week of Spring blossoms at Cincinnati's Ault Park this year. It had rained all that week, so it wouldn't have mattered. By the time we got there the rain and winds had done their damage and the weeping cherries and daffodils were past their prime. Alt has so many different botanicals that the Spring display lasts well into May. The star magnolias were still in flower and I contrasted this one with the dark conifers behind.

Urban Landscape

Head First
14" x 11", Oil on Canvas
04/2015

Another scene from the Clifton neighborhood of Cincinnati, this urban landscape features the sign from the hair saloon that I've been going to since college. The "Whole Damn Family" attends on the same night for our regular session. Kudos to Donna for putting up with us all for so long!

River Reflections

Boats at Bellevue 2
11" x 14", Oil on Canvas
03/2015

A little larger and a slightly different composition from the last painting of the Queen City Riverboats docked in Bellevue, Kentucky. The red, white and blue of the boats shows against the distant, late morning, hillsides of the East End of Cincinnati.
