OPA Great American Paintout 2

Upper Overlook
12" x 16", Oil on Canvas
10/2014

The second Saturday of the Oil Painters of America, Great American Paintout in Eden Park Cincinnati was cold and windy with broken skys. This view is of the Ohio River Monument, dedicated by President Herbert Hoover in 1929 to commemorate canalization of the river for year-round water transport. The Ohio cuts down into the geologic formation of the Cincinnati Arch, with us on it's heights. Looking East, the Northern Kentucky bluffs project across the middle, then the Ohio side and Kentucky again a misty backdrop behind as the river zig-zags between.
