Melan Bridge
Plein Air, 12" x 16", Oil on Canvas
04/2013
This Melan reinforced concrete arch bridge was built in Eden Park, Cincinnati, in 1894. Joseph Melan developed a system of embedding rigid iron trusses into the concrete structure, instead of reinforcing rods. These bridges are noted for their shallow and thin arches. This one can be found spanning Eden Park Drive, with carved limestone eagles flanking both entrance and exit ends.
