View from Price Hill
12" x 16", Oil on Canvas
05/2015
East Price Hill in Cincinnati is experiencing a renaissance with new development and a wonderful new, modern theater being built. One of the city's oldest suburbs, Price Hill is on the bluffs directly to the West of downtown. Eventhough Eighth Street appears to be slanting off toward the lower left in the painting, it is directly in alignment with Olden View Park where I was painting. This park is at the top of the old incline right of way that took 8th Street straight up the hill and its continuation through Price Hill.

With Grudging Permission
Reclining by a Drift of Daffodils
(Echo & Narcissus?)
24" x 30", Oil on Canvas
05/2015
Cheryl doesn't like seeing herself in artwork, but sometimes she's the only model I have available. From a trip last Spring to Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati. And daffodils are one of her favorite flowers. She won't like the mythological reference either... she's not in love with the sound of her voice (although I am).

Plein Air– Camp Dennision
At The Bend
12" x 16", Oil on Canvas
05/2015
These two homes are in the grouping with the Waldschmidt House in Camp Dennision, Ohio. The stone house in the bend of the road is operated as a Civil War Museum run by the Daughters of the American Revolution. It commemorates the use of fields behind as a large training, recruiting and hospital camp for the Union forces.

Plein Air– Great American Ball Park
Big Klu– Watches Over All
12" x 16", Oil on Canvas
05/2015
The front courtyard of Great American Ball Park is so busy visually, it's hard to pare it all down to a composition. Here the statue of Ted Kluszewski, the former Reds slugger, is in the on deck circle observing Joe Nuxhall's pitch. There are several statues commemorating the greats of the game in Cincinnati and in a totally improbable juxtaposition of time and space. They mostly played at Crosley Field (across town) and in different decades.

Small Lotus Study
Reserves Park– Lotus Study 5
6" x 8", Oil on Canvas Panel

This is a smaller study of lotus in the Reserves Park Series. I'll be showing many of these "little gems" at Gallery 42 next month when I will be the featured artist.

Oil on Paper
Wild Turkeys
9" x 12", Oil on Paper
04/2015
Further exploration of the use of Arches Oil Paper has lead to this painting of two wild turkeys. A flock of these birds used to come down to feed in a field along West Chester Road, near Honorlaw's Farm. The photo that this work was done from was take the winter before this last. Turkey iridescence is a challenge to paint.
